Are the higher the grade of stainless steel such as 201, 304, 316L, the better?

Stainless steel with a grade of 201, 304, 316L, etc. is not better as the grade increases. It just represents the corrosion resistance of stainless steel. Moreover, there are many types of stainless steel. In theory, there is no difference between “good” and “bad”, because different stainless steels have different uses. Here, Zyta needs to share some knowledge with you.
The main alloying elements of stainless steel are carbon, chromium, and nickel. Chromium is the most basic element that determines the corrosion resistance of stainless steel. When the chromium content reaches a certain value, the steel has corrosion resistance. Therefore, stainless steel generally contains at least 10.5% chromium. In addition, stainless steel also contains alloying elements such as titanium, manganese, nitrogen, niobium, molybdenum, silicon, sulfur, and copper, which constitute stainless steel with different grades (201, 304, 316, 430…).
According to the organizational structure, stainless steel can be divided into austenitic stainless steel, martensitic stainless steel, ferritic stainless steel, duplex stainless steel and precipitation hardening stainless steel. According to the alloy composition, stainless steel can be divided into 200 series chromium-nickel-manganese austenitic stainless steel, 300 series chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel, 400 series ferrite and martensitic stainless steel, 500 series heat-resistant chromium alloy steel, 600 series martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel. The chromium, nickel and other precious metals used in high-grade stainless steel are more expensive, so high-grade stainless steel is more expensive.
Stainless steel grades mainly include national standard, American standard and Japanese standard. Stainless steel grades such as 201, 304, 316L are all expressed in American standard.
